Since 1980, R.H.E.M.A. has equipped and managed three different medical centers for the sick-poor in Haiti. In 1990, the government of Haiti assigned to RHEMA International, Inc., the remote rural community of Bocozelle with a population of 40,000 poor Haitians. This community is located approximately 80 miles north of the capital, Port au Prince, Haiti. We constructed, equipped and staffed our current medical facility. Our Haitian Staff often serves over 100 patients per day. Our facility is presently open Monday through Friday each week. Patients travel from up to a ten-mile radius of our Bocozelle facility.
The new Maternity Hospital building has already been started, and is just about completed. 460 women, out of 1,000 lose their life in child birth yearly. An alarming statistic. RHEMA plans to expand this facility into a maternity hospital with safe, sanitary and compassionate care in Bocozelle, Haiti. Our present staff consists of one physician, Dr. Bethel LAINE’, a registered nurse, two medical assistants. one pharmacist, an administrator, a cashier, and a maintenance man.
